Dr. Michael D. Bartholomew (Dr. B) is a 25-year veteran of the veterinary field, earning his DVM from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2001. After discovering his passion for integrative modalities early in his career, he went on to obtain certifications in Veterinary Acupuncture, Tui-na, Food Therapy and Chinese Herbal Medicine, being awarded the first ever (in the world) Master of Science in TCVM from the Chi Institute in 2016. He is also certified in TCVM End of Life & Palliative Care, Equine Rehabilitation, Magnawave and is Fear-Free® Certified. Additionally, Dr B is currently working to earn his Doctorate in TCVM. He was also recently named a Tampa Style Magazine Veterinarian of the Year 2026 and serves on the Medical Advisory Board for The New Barker magazine.

Throughout his career Dr. B. has incorporated TCVM, homeopathy and many other integrative modalities into practice on a daily basis. With a career spanning 25 years and 4 states (MD, PA, NY, FL) Dr. B has spent the past 12 years practicing in sunny Dunedin, FL. There he served as medical director of his hospital for eight years as well as senior partner for his last five. Dr. Bartholomew has treated pets across the United States and from around the world, including locations as far as Turkey, France, England and Hong Kong and counts integrative medicine pioneers Marty Goldstein and Hushing Xie as his mentors. He is a contributing author of several textbooks including Xie’s Veterinary Herbology, Integrative Chinese Veterinary Medicine Food Therapy, and contributing author and editor of Application of Tui-Na in Veterinary Medicine. He has also been published in multiple scholarly journals and magazines including the American Journal of Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine and IVC Journal

Additionally, Dr. B is an Assistant Professor at the Chi University (Reddick, FL). In 2018, he helped to establish a Chi University developed TCVM program at St. George’s Veterinary College in Grenada and has also traveled to teach veterinary students at Ross University (in St. Kitts), UC Davis and the University of Florida.

Testimonials

I have known Dr. B for over 12 years and had the privilege of working alongside him as a teaching assistant at Chi University, where we helped educate veterinarians in Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine. Dr. B is not only exceptionally knowledgeable in integrative and holistic veterinary care, but he is also one of the most compassionate and big-hearted professionals I know. His dedication to his patients and their families is genuine and unwavering. He combines deep clinical expertise with true empathy, always taking the time to listen, educate, and support both animals and their humans. I trust him completely and would recommend him without hesitation to anyone seeking thoughtful, integrative veterinary care.
